Albuquerque Wedding Photographer

Albuquerque is one of my favorite places to photograph a wedding. Where else can you get cottonwoods along the Rio Grande, a city full of history, and the Sandia Mountains turning pink at sunset, all in one day? I'm Clay Benedict, a wedding photographer based in Portales, New Mexico. I photograph ranch and outdoor weddings all over New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma, and Albuquerque is a regular drive for me.

One venue I've loved working at is Old Town Farm. It's a working farm just west of Old Town and east of the Rio Grande, with pastures, gardens, big trees and a red barn, right in the middle of the city. A ceremony out under the trees and a reception in the barn makes for photos that feel relaxed and full of life. I've also photographed couples in the Sandia Foothills. There the light in the last hour of the day does most of the work for me, and all I have to do is be in the right spot.

My approach is simple. I'm not there to direct your day or stage moments that didn't happen. I'm there to quietly catch the real ones: your dad's face when he first sees you, the friend who can't stop laughing during the toasts, the two of you sneaking a minute alone after the ceremony. I'll guide you through portraits so you're never left wondering what to do with your hands. The rest of the day I stay out of the way and let it unfold.

New Mexico light and landscape are a big part of my style. Before your day I'll talk with you about timing: when the sun goes behind the West Mesa, where the best shade is at midday, and how to plan portraits so you get both the mountains and the golden light. A little planning up front makes a huge difference in your gallery.

Whether you're planning a small elopement with a few people or a full-day celebration with everyone you love, I'd be glad to hear about it. I've been recognized with The Knot's Best of Weddings award twice, but the part I care about most is that couples come away feeling like their photos actually look like their day.
