Santa Fe Wedding Photographer

Santa Fe and the mountains around it are about as beautiful a setting for a wedding as you'll find. There's adobe and old plazas in town, and pine forest just a short drive up the road. I'm Clay Benedict, a wedding photographer based in Portales, New Mexico, and I photograph ranch, mountain and outdoor weddings all across northern New Mexico.

One Santa Fe spot I've photographed is the historic lodge at Hyde Memorial State Park. It sits in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains a few miles up Hyde Park Road from town, in a pine forest along Little Tesuque Creek. The lodge was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and has stone fireplaces and a big open patio. It's a great fit for couples who want a mountain wedding without traveling far from Santa Fe. Keep in mind that the park is at high elevation with no cell service, so we'll plan your timeline ahead of time.

If you're drawn to the red cliffs of northern New Mexico, I've also photographed at Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, about an hour or so northwest of Santa Fe. Farther north, I've worked at Log River Ranch near Chama. Some of my favorite images come from those wide-open places where the landscape is as much a part of the story as the people.

My style is honest and unposed. I'm not there to direct your day. I'm there to quietly capture what really happens: the nerves before the aisle, the hug from your grandmother, the dancing after dinner. For portraits I'll give you easy, gentle direction and then let you just be together. In the mountains I also pay attention to light. Pine forests can be shady in the middle of the day, so I'll help you plan for the best light during portraits and the golden hour.
