Durango Wedding Photographer
There's something about a mountain wedding in southwest Colorado. Clean air, big views, cottonwoods along the river, and evenings that cool off just as the dancing starts. I'm Clay Benedict, a wedding photographer based in Portales, New Mexico. I make the trip north to Durango and the surrounding area to photograph couples who want their wedding to feel like part of the landscape.
One of the venues I've photographed near Durango is Ridgewood Event Center in Hesperus, about 20 minutes outside of town. It has wide lawns with mountain views, a handcrafted barn, flagstone patios and an old-growth grove of tall cottonwoods. There's also a ceremony site down a short trail along the La Plata River. With so many settings in one place, we can get a variety of portraits without spending your whole day driving.
Not far south of the state line, I've also photographed at Triple J Ranch in Kirtland, New Mexico. If you're planning a wedding anywhere in the Four Corners area, chances are I've driven those roads.
My approach is easygoing and unposed. I'm not there to stage your day. I'm there to notice the real moments as they happen: the quiet minute before the ceremony, the toast that has everyone crying, your friends taking over the dance floor. For portraits I'll give simple direction and then let you enjoy each other. Mountain weather can change quickly, so I'll help you build a timeline with a little cushion and a backup plan, so you won't be stressed if clouds roll in.
Whether you're planning a small gathering on the lawn or a big celebration with everyone you love, I'd love to hear about it. I've been named in The Knot's Best of Weddings twice. Even so, what I care about most is that your photos feel honest and that the day itself was easy on you.
